Nanaimo Bars!
[Gluten-free & no-bake]
Above: Our Nanaimo Bar dressed up for Halloween. We’ll be making a holiday version at our upcoming LA baking classes in November and December.
What is it? The Nanaimo Bar is sort of like the best candy bar you’ve ever had, with a chewy, toothsome chocolate-almond-coconut crust, topped with a soft vanilla creme, and glazed with chocolate. It’s named after Nanaimo, British Columbia, where it originated, and is called “Canada’s Favorite Confection”.
We love it because it’s easy to modify for different holidays throughout the year, by changing the flavor and/or color. In our holiday classes, we’ll show you how to change and swirl the color of the filling and how to make decorative flourishes on top, along with ideas for flavoring the filling (Amaretti and rum come to mind) for a divine little holiday sweet.
In Los Angeles? Visit us at www.thebakelab.com for our holiday class schedule. Join us in making Nanaimo bars, along with real eggnog, swirled peppermint marshmallows, and classic gingerbread men, all perfect for parties and gifting!
